PETITION: "Proposal to Nullify and Replace
the CORE-MoU"
We, the undersigned, do declare that the current
proposals for reform of the domain name system being put forward by the organization known
as CORE do not represent the best interests of the Internet community in general, and
domain name owners, brokers, registrars and other entities connected with domain names in
particular.
Furthermore, we charge that none of the processes
currently being followed to change the domain name system adequately represent the views
held by a significant proportion of the Internet community. Instead, each represents an
imposition of the views of a restricted group of entities on the entire Internet. This is
in spite of the large number of objections raised to the current processes.
We demand the following:-
- That the process of domain name reform be an open,
representative one.
- That a broad concensus be reached with all relevant
parties before any changes are made to the existing system.
- That no action should be taken without such a
concensus being reached.
- That a genuine attempt be made to examine the need for
domain name reforms, as well as the reforms themselves.
- That no one entity should be arbitrarily excluded from
the process of domain name reform.
The undersigned,
Daniel Cohn (Director, DocuSearch)
Johnny Pulliam (WebMeister, DTE Computer Systems)
Patrick Tomasch
APPENDIX
We further agree that the proposals set out in the following document, "Saving the Domain Name System : A Real
Alternative", represent a valid proposal
for reforming the domain name system, and should be made available for public scrutiny
with a view to implementation after any necessary changes have been made.
