Even before it’s official public launch, .co is already proving to be a popular extension.
With the landrush period closed as of July 16, the new TLD has received nearly 28,000 applications, bringing the total to nearly 39,000, which includes the sunrise period. It’s important to note that submitting an application does not guarantee that the applicant will receive the name.
Of the nearly 39,000 applications, it’s reported that 2,523 domains received more than application and will be auctioned off at Pool.com. Additionally, another 70 domains had 10+ applicants, 451 applicants submitted 10+ applications each, and applications were received from a total of 133 different countries!
The pre-registration period began back in April when LCN.com announced the launch of their pre-registration system. The applications submitted during the entire pre-launch phase appear to have brought the Registry in excess of $10 million in application fees.
The TLD becomes available to the general public on July 20th.
