VeriSign and the Internet Society (ISOC) announced that the transfer of the .org domain extension will be delayed in order to give companies selling the extension more time to comply with new requirements. Once the transfer is complete, VeriSign and the ISOC appointed Public Interest Registry (PIR) will jointly manage the technical aspects of the .org extension in order to maintain a seamless transfer. VeriSign relinquished the extension in a deal with ICANN that allowed them to continue to manage the .com extension
