While InterNIC does not permit individuals to register domain names, the practice appears to be happening more and more often as user’s desire personalized email addresses (i.e. your-first-name@your-last-name.com). In a market dominated by large companies, more and more individuals are registering their own small piece of internet real estate for approximately $100/year. At this point InterNIC claims a total of 60,000 domains registered worldwide, 500 new applications received on a daily basis, and a continued backlog of 5000 applications that they are dealing with.
