Popular search engine, AltaVista, run by Digital Equipment Corporation, has won a preliminary trademark infringement suit against AltaVista Technology Inc. Though the company won the suit, AltaVista Technology Inc. is allowed to keep the domain name “altavista.com”. They must, however, put a disclosure on every page of their website that says “AltaVista Technology Inc. is not affiliated with Digital Equipment Corporation, AltaVista Internet Software Inc., or the AltaVista search service. The AltaVista Internet search service may be found at http://altavista.digital.com.”
