Co.uk Domains Draw Big Bucks with Rent.co.uk Sale

Rent.co.uk sold this week in Sedo’s domain auction for over $100k USD.

This is another example of the increasing value of co.uk domain names in the secondary market. According to a recent Sedo study, their domain statistics show that in the second quarter of 2009, co.uk names generated higher average resale prices on the secondary market than the more popular .com domains. The average sale of a co.uk domain was £790 while .com dropped to £594.

According to Nora Nanayakkara, Director of Business Development for Sedo:

“Registrations for .co.uk domains remain healthy and the rise of the domain suggests greater demand for more localized domains which could be in response to ICANN’s decision to explore the possibility of opening up the domain space to introduce location and category specific names. The jury is still out on whether or not these plans will go ahead and we’ll be watching the market closely to see how this develops.

co.uk domain prices have been on an upward trend over the last three years, suggesting that UK businesses continue to gravitate toward the country code for localized business. This new study combined with this upward trend ensures that co.uk domains will continue to thrive in the secondary market, generating high dollar sales.
