Telnic to Offer Internationlized Domain Names

ICANN has approved Tenic’s request to offer internationalized domain names on their TLD, .tel. The Registry made the request in December and it just approved by ICANN Chief gTLD Registry Liaison Craig Schwartz.

By offering these new internationalized version of .tel domain names, users will now be able to register their domain names in the native language and character set. However, Telnic has not released a timeline for when they will begin offering the internationalized domains or specific plans on which character sets will be available.

It’s important to note that the approval was only for the second level domain and that all users, including the new IDNs, will still have to type out the .tel extension at the end.
