.org Prices to Increase

September 08, 2010 in News

Come April 2011, you may be paying a little more for .org domain name – or at least Registrars of .org names will. In a letter to ICANN, the .org Registry (Public Interest Registry), said that they intend to increase wholesale pricing on .org domain names to $7.21 as of April 1, 2011. This increase does not include ICANN fees, which will be added to the final price. Many Registrars already have large profit margins built into their retail price for .org domain names, which may mean that the cost increase will not be passed on to .org registrants.

The other big TLDs, .com and .net, were both effected by price increases over the past year and VeriSign has indicated that additional price increases on the two TLDs will occur next year as well.
