After banning individuals from registering .cn country code domain names, China has plans to now re-open registration. The ban occurred as the country cracked down on pornography and false domain registrations. The ccTLD had quickly become popular due to its extremely low pricing, but this low pricing also made it a popular extension for criminal activity.
Because of the ban, many people in China had moved to the more expensive .com TLD out of convenience. CNNIC, the company that manages the .cn Registry has not yet announced a date for when they will begin allowing individual registrations again.
