Cybersquatting Lawsuit Names Dotster

June 02, 2006 in News

A new federal lawsuit alleges that Dotster, a large domain name Registrar, participated in a large cybersquatting campaign. The suit claims that the cybersquatting campaign targeted such large companies as Disney, Cingular, Verizon, and more. The suit specifically charges that Dotster reviewed hundreds of domain names similar to the actual company names and then kept those that were visited by web users who had misspelled the actual company name. Those names were then redirected to paid advertising pages.
