European Registrars Refuse to pay ICANN Fees

January 17, 2002 in News

European Registrars, including Nominet, the .uk Registry, are refusing to pay ICANN fees. The Registrars claim that ICANN “has not done enough to guarantee the stability of the servers that link domains.” The concern over stability primarily lies in the 13 DNS root servers that link domain names to numerical IP addresses. Without these servers, Internet users would not be able to reach websites. European Registries are requesting that ICANN establish standards that would ensure the reliability of the root servers.
