Facebook Get Extension from USPTO

January 27, 2011 in News

Facebook was granted an extension by the USPTO (US Patent and Trademark Office) in their battle against American Farm Bureau.

Though the popular social media company purchased the domain FB.com from American Farm Bureau, they are still battling over a trademark dispute. On Monday, Facebook files an extension with the USPTO stating that both parties were engaged in settlement talks, however, and was granted that extension.

The battle began when American Farm Bureau challenged the social media giant when they attempted to trademark “FB”. During their discussions of the trademark, Facebook purchased the FB.com domain from American Farm Bureau via an intermediary. Despite purchasing the name, the company still has not settled the trademark issue.

The extension gives the Facebook an additional 30 days to settle the matter.
