ICANN’s board has decided to delay their decision on the independent review of its decision to deny the ICM Registry the .xxx TLD. The board had originally authorized a contract with the Registry to launch .xxx during the last round of TLD launches. However, after much pressure from both the government and other groups, including the adult industry itself, the board voted to drop the plans.
In order to move forward with their plans for .xxx, ICM Registry took advantage of ICANN’s independent review process to question the boards reversal of their agreement. This independent review resolved to “create a transparent set of process options which can be published for public comment”. The independent review directs ICANN’s CEO, Rod Beckstrom, and the organizations counsel to “finalize a report of possible process options for further consideration.”
ICANN has delayed the decision until their June meeting in Brussels.
