ICANN Relaxes Naming Rules

June 26, 2008 in News

ICANN voted this week to relax the rules for domain names. The new proposal, which passed in their vote, will allow for the registration of custom generic TLDs. For instance, eBay could be .ebay and New York City could be .nyc. In an effort to keep the cybersquatters at bay, the new names will likely sell for $50,000-$100,000. ICANN also plans to allow trademark owners priority in registering their names.
