Registrars Collect Money for Impossible Domain Registrations

January 06, 2000 in News

Network Solutions accepted approximately 800 erroneous domain registrations that contained a hyphen at either the beginning or end of the domain name. The error occurred because the software used when registering names was not correctly filtering out the errors and the actual domain name system wouldn’t be able to handle the registration data. Registrars who hadn’t filtered out the mistakes would probably have to return the registration money.
