According to some registrars, a new proposal by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) could possibly threaten the existence of domain names. The organization wants to expand the UDRP (Uniform Domain Resolution Policy) to include names and government organizations. Doing so would make it so that any domain owner who owns a domain that includes a country name, government name, or acronym would be forced to drop the domain.
